This Texas historic cemetery was established well before 1910 when some community organizers initially established the Lockhart Community Cemetery for Colored people on or about November 16, 1910. There are headstones in the cemetery dating back to the 1800s well before the association was established. The cemetery association required the community and families of those interred to provide the necessary care and upkeep of the cemetery, The cemetery as a whole became sorrowfully nelected, words quoted from an educated scholar name Mrs. Julia Knight, which lead her to initiate making this cemetery a Texas Historic Cemetery designation in 1999. A new Lockhart Cemetery Association (LCA) was formed in 2015 to restore this abandoned and neglected cemetery.
